Before I Wake

Overwhelmed by grief and frustration regarding recent violence, Dallas transplant Jonathan Joseph could take no more. Before shedding tears, the vocal leader of Springfield’s musical collaborative The Soul Society began to write a song. “Before I Wake” is the jazzy, emotional result. The timely single delivers raw feelings of pain and pleads for communities to join together. Joseph’s raspy delivery is filled with fire. The song brings questions pointed at systemic failure, while also recognizing the battle won’t be won until we come together: Put your fists up, this isn’t for blacks, it’s for the nation. “Before I Wake” is available to stream.
