Grandma Strange, Nightingale
The sophomore release from Grandma Strange is a glorious blend of decades. The alt-blues quartet bends genres throughout Nightingale. Through creative and unexpected transitions, the songs range from psychedelic rock of the 1960s to nineties grunge with splashing breaks of flamenco and latin rhythms (see “The Builder”). Brooke Austen’s sultry vocal register is reminiscent of Janis Joplin. Grandma Strange is equally impressive on both ends of pace, from the dancy hand-clapper “Ghost Light” to down-tempo “Got it Goin’ On.” Nightingale, released in late 2015, is available for digital download. Grandma Strange plays Saturday, November 19 at Patton Alley Pub with Lesserhasbeens from Kansas City.
