Dress your fella in Tommy Bahama from head to toe at Knight's Menswear & Ladies, Too. Fragrances, belts, shorts, shirts, ties and more are all available. The store carries a variety of women's brands; check out Nic & Zoe.
ATMOSPHERE: The laid-back and friendly staff will make you feel at home as soon as you walk into Knight’s. The store is sparsely decorated, but if you stop to look around, there’s a lot to notice in the little carefully arranged settings on the perimeter of the room. (One scene has armor, apropos of the store’s name.) Old suitcases sit in the men’s department. The ladies’ bags are on a table that also holds stacks of antique books.
KEY PERSON: Wanda Knight opened Knight’s 10 years ago and celebrated her one-decade anniversary in March. Before heading into store-ownership, this Lebanon native and her husband were in the auction business. Besides being a pleasure to chat with, Wanda holds true to small-town values and old-fashioned business practices. She owns one of few places I’ve ever shopped that offers free alterations to all customers.
WHAT YOU’LL FIND: As the name suggests, Knight’s carries clothing for men and women, and Wanda says she likes to stick to casual fashions. Favorites for men include the Tommy Bahama brand, which she has in logo T-shirts ($32), swim trunks (starting at $54), and even ties ($55) in bold, tropical designs and bright colors. A particularly fun shirt was a blue, short-sleeved button-up ($120) with an embroidered Tommy Bahama logo on the back that showed a bikini-clad hottie with a martini in one hand and a shaker in the other. For guys who don’t want to drop Tommy Bahama–sized wads of cash, Knight’s also carries Columbia brand button-up shirts in solids and plaids ($30 to $60).
A variety of fun patterns are a highlight in the women’s department, and a favorite of mine was a printed Lynn Ritchie 3⁄4-sleeve shirt ($88) with two contrasting patterns: The thin overlay is white with a black toile print, and the inside has words printed in different handwritings (graffiti-style). I loved the work-friendly but also fresh and fun Nic & Zoe fitted blazer with navy and khaki pinstripes and frayed details at the sleeve and hem ($128). It was paired with feminine, fun and adorable Nic & Zoe cream tie-front blouse with ruffle detail and black embroidered floral pattern on the front ($139). If prints aren’t your thing, there was a belted blue Karen Kane short-sleeved, knit wrap sweater with a ribbed lapel ($60).
For spring, Knight’s carries new straw Brighton bags for $175. A mixed-leather Brighton billfold with shabby-chic metal detail was $48. Knight’s also has a variety of Brighton accessories for women, as well as Tommy Bahama fragrance ($37.50 for .5 ounces) and sweet-smelling reed diffusers in pineapple and mango ($35).
417 VERDICT: Okay, so maybe the décor isn’t the swankest in 417-land, but you go to a clothing store for the clothes. Stop by for fun and fresh women’s and menswear, but stay to chat with Wanda. She’s a hoot.
One of the cutest little eateries Ozark’s town square does a lot of things well, including serving up a top notch black and bleu salad.
Metro Appliances & More is the new name for an old favorite place, and the store continues to provide a large variety of appliances to homebuilders, remodelers and consumers.
