Carrie Winston, 24

Staff accountant, tax department, BKD LLP

Carrie Winston was originally a biology major at Drury University. “One day I was sitting and looking at cross-sections of leaves when I decided that wasn’t what I wanted to do,” Winston says. Winston changed her major to accounting and graduated from Drury University with an MBA in 2008. Then she started at BKD LLP. She’s also involved with the American Society of Women Accountants, where she will be treasurer next year. Within that organization, she started a financial literacy committee that works with Springfield organizations to teach basic business principles. Winston is a member of Springfield’s Junior League and Rotaract clubs and a volunteer at Big Brothers Big Sisters.—S.W.
