What three words define your personal style?
Tailored, classic, current
What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever worn?
I was proud to wear it at the time, but in the early ‘90s, I actually wore a black leather bolo with metal tips to school.
Who are your fashion role models?
Nickelson Wooster is a street style icon. He worked with Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus chain stores, as well as Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren and Thom Browne brands. He’s 55, so his look is dignified, yet cool.
What do you think is the worst fashion faux pas?
Socks with flip flops.
What’s your signature piece?
For me, a jacket is a stylish, versatile piece that can transform any outfit.
What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a must-have piece of clothing?
My wedding tuxedo was custom made for me at Mark Shale for $1,100. I was impressed with the attention to detail in measurement, like one sleeve being ¼-inch longer.
Where do you find fashion inspiration?
Everywhere: magazines, Internet, peers.
If you could wear one brand or designer for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
H&M has everything from day to night, even gym clothes, so probably that brand. They feature popular designers periodically, which offers a new look. Also, they’re affordable; allowing me to take risks on pieces without breaking the bank.
How long does it take you to get ready to go out or go to work?
It doesn’t take me long to get ready, but the majority of my process would be on what I’m wearing.
Finish this sentence: “I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing...”
What are your favorite places to shop that are in 417-land?
Modern Society Men’s Shop.
What are your favorite places to shop that are not in 417-land?
Jack Threads, H&M.
What’s the best bargain you’ve ever found?
Nothing specific stands out, but I’m always very conscious of how much I’m spending and don’t splurge often.
Do you shop at thrift stores? If so, what do you look for?
I don’t typically shop at thrift stores, but maybe for Halloween or a theme party outfit.
What’s your favorite outfit or article of clothing you’ve ever worn?
My favorite would be my wedding tuxedo. At the time, I thought it was a lot to spend for one day, but I have actually been able to wear it again on occasion.
What is your favorite fashion trend right now?
In general, I like the trend that there seem to be less fashion rules right now, and I like the freedom of that. You can mix brown and black. You can wear white after Labor Day.
What fashion trend do you wish would go away?
I’m not a big fan of the oversized T-shirts for men that hang to mid-thigh.
