What three words define your personal style?
“Chic, classic, feminine.”
Where do you find inspiration for your closet?
“You can be anything you want with the right outfit. When my wardrobe is feeling a bit stale and the monotony of the day to day has worn me down, I get inspiration from my favorite leading ladies. Like Mindy Lahiri from The Mindy Project when I’m taking myself too seriously. Or Olivia Pope from Scandal when I need to get things done.”
What is your favorite fashion trend right now?
“I’m loving all the volume we are seeing on the runways this spring. From ruffles, billowing sleeves and fuller skirts to big curls and beehive hairstyles.”
What fashion trend do you wish would go away?
“Crop tops. We get it, you’re skinny.”
Who are your fashion role models?
“My mother. She has impeccable taste and a shoe collection that I swoon for. I’m always looking to her for style guidance. I guess it’s true: My mother really does know best, at least when it comes to fashion.”
What’s your signature piece?
“I can’t say I have one piece, it’s more of a signature silhouette. Most of my wardrobe is made up of A-line pieces. I have curves and want to accentuate the skinniest part of my body, which is my waist.”
How long does it take you to get ready to go out or go to work?
“I hate being rushed or late, so I give myself ample time to get ready. I enjoy the process of getting ready, sometimes even more than the actual going out.”
If you could wear one brand or designer for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
“That’s a tough one. Probably Dolce & Gabbana for their vibrant florals and fun prints.”
Finish this sentence: I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing…
“UGG Boots. First of all, they are UGG-ly. Secondly, they are cruelly produced. Those poor sheep endure terrible treatment for a pair of boots. There are lots of ways to keep your feet warm without animal cruelty.”
What are your favorite places to shop that are in 417-land?
“MODERN Society is one of my faves. 5 Pound Appeal is a great place too because of the charity work they do with the store’s proceeds. No buyer’s remorse when I’m shopping there.”
What are your favorite places to shop that are not in 417-land?
“H&M has a really good and not-too-expensive eco-friendly clothing line I like to shop. Its ethically produced and adorable. I love Anthropologie; clothing and home decor in one shop combines my two greatest loves. Who wouldn’t want their dress to match their sofa pillows?”
What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever worn?
“Everything I wore from first grade through fourth grade. I danced to the beat of my own drum. My poor mother, I fought her every day on what I was going to wear. I would put the craziest things together. I basically played dress up every day in elementary school. Not that I haven’t had my fair share of fashion missteps since then.”
What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a must-have piece of clothing, and what was it?
“I feel that it’s not as important how much it cost as how it fits. My must-have pieces aren’t even seen by people. A good bra and a seamstress are the things I will never skimp on. Get a professional bra fitting and find a good seamstress for alterations, and you will look like a million bucks every day.”
What’s the best bargain you’ve ever found?
“Dolce & Gabbana designs these really cute embellished headbands for their runway shows that I’m in love with. They are covered in jewels and pearls, totally over the top. For a fraction of the price of an authentic one I was able to find one inspired by the designer. I get so many compliments when I wear it. It’s a great way to style a little black dress or offset a basic white tee and a good pair of jeans.”
What do you think is the worst fashion faux pas?
“Wearing clothes or shoes that don’t fit you properly. It might be a really cute outfit or pair of shoes, but if you can’t walk in the heels or you keep tugging at your hemline it ruins the whole look.”
Do you shop at thrift stores? If so, what do you look for?
“I do enjoy an afternoon of vintage treasure hunting. It can be hard to find vintage clothing that’s not teeny-tiny, so I look for things like scarves, sunglasses, handbags and jewelry. I’ll add a vintage costume brooch to a jacket or tie a scarf around the straps of a purse just to add a little more personality to an outfit.”
