Courtney Ungaro, 27

CFO of The Mid-West Transfer and Executive Director of Perspectives Preparatory Academy

If you could wear one brand or designer for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
“Rachel Zoe. I love that she takes classic pieces and puts a twist on them to make them unique and interesting.”

Finish this sentence: I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing…
“I feel like I am open to anything, but I am sure there is a hard line… somewhere.”

What’s the best bargain you’ve ever found?
“I was at a thrift shop and found a set of eight House of Harlow bangles. I only paid 12 bucks for them! Every time I wear them I share the story. I was pumped.”

What is your favorite fashion trend right now?
“I love mixing feminine and masculine pieces (e.g., a tulle skirt with a military jacket).”

What fashion trend do you wish would go away?
“Wearing leggings with a T-shirt. THEY AREN’T PANTS.”

Where do you work?
“My husband and I own six companies in 417-land. But, our newest adventure for August of 2017 is Perspectives Preparatory Academy (PPA), a nonprofit school for students on autism spectrum.  PPA will value an inclusive learning environment that promotes each student’s unique strengths. Not all students will be on the autism spectrum, but all of them are affected by the lack of flexibility in the public school setting.”

Where do you find fashion inspiration?
“Magazines, Instagram and television.”

Who are your fashion role models?
“Julianne Hough, Tom Ford and Rachel Zoe.”

What three words define your personal style?
“Breezy, uncommon and chic.”

What’s your signature piece?
“That’s a tough call. Probably funky [and] fun shoes.”

How long does it take you to get ready to go out or go to work?
“35 minutes if my hair agrees.”

What are your favorite places to shop that are in 417-land?
“MODERN Society, Harem & Company.”

What are your favorite places to shop that are not in 417-land?
“BCBG, Evereve and Lululemon Athletica.”

What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever worn?
“Let’s just say I wore high-waisted before it was cool…”

What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a must-have piece of clothing, and what was it?
“A pair of Python Boots booties. That’s all I have to say about that.”

What do you think is the worst fashion faux pas?
“Wearing something because it is ‘in’ rather than wearing it because you feel fabulous in it. Clothes should make you feel unstoppable, not uncomfortable.”

Do you shop at thrift stores? If so, what do you look for?
“Absolutely! I look for pieces that add character to my closet—or just a steal of a deal.”
