Budget Gourmet
Asking 10 of our region’s chefs to make an impressive dinner dish for four was the easy part. To make it a little harder, we challenged each chef to create a meal under a certain price point, so budget-conscious families can dine like gourmet chefs. The results are delicious.
Let’s face it: Dinner can be more than we bargained for. Quite literally. With food prices on a steady increase and our 401(k)s dwindling before our eyes, cooking quality meals at home seems a luxury. That’s why we’ve asked 10 top 417-land chefs to dispel the myth that quality food equals an empty wallet (and stomach). We put 10 local chefs to the test and asked them to create a fabulous dinner for four that meets two criteria: The dish has to be in the style of the gourmet food they serve in their restaurants, and it has to cost less than their assigned price points. Everything in the recipe—from the cut of meat to the salt and pepper—must fall below $15, $20 or $25. So go ahead and invite the neighbors over for dinner. They’ll never know your meal cost less than a single tank of gas.
