Best Hotel We Can’t Wait to See
Mark your calendars for May 2015. That’s when the new Hotel Vandivort (305 E. Walnut St., Springfield, 417-414-0150, hotelvandivort.com) is scheduled to open for business. After undergoing serious reconstruction, this 100-year-old Masonic temple, now a 50-room high-end hotel, is said to boast a masculine and moody design—think lots of dark-stained woods and metals. Add that to a fabulous bar decked with 90 glass-blown plumb-bob chandeliers, a swanky restaurant and a 3,000-square-foot ballroom that overlooks downtown Springfield.
Best Workout Trend
All Things Hot!
Getting super-sweaty helps you feel like you’re getting an amazing, incredible, ultra-intense calorie-burning workout. Dripping with perspiration has to burn more calories, right? Hot workout classes are all the rage, and lucky for you, several 417-land gyms offer some seriously awesome heated classes. If you want to work up a sweat, head to Sumits Yoga class at Sumits Hot Yoga (2680 S. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, 417-881-9642, sumitshotyogasgf.com), Hot Fusion Yoga at Pure Hot Yoga (610 E. Battlefield, Springfield, 417-886-7873, purehotyoga.net) or Hot Barre at Physique Fitness (326 N. Boonville Ave. #101, Springfield, 417-831-0661, physiquedowntown.com).
Best Effortless Road Trip
Missouri Wines Mobile App
There are wineries producing great vino all over the state, and you can visit each and every one with the help of the Missouri Wines mobile app. iPhone users can find it in the App Store and the Android app is available on Google Play. This handy tool lets you map out your choice of more than 125 Missouri wineries, and then you can pull it up on your mobile device or tablet. Cheers!
Best Road Improvement
Diverging Diamond at Battlefield and Highway 65
For all you drivers out there who end your work day locked in traffic at the intersection of Battlefield and 65, MODOT is bringing you your Christmas present early this year! This accident-prone intersection will feature a brand-spanking-new bridge and diverging diamond by September!
Best Botox Bargain of the Year
As a special treat for regular clients, Acacia Spa (1536 E. Primrose St., Springfield, 417-823-8318, acacia-spa.com) offered botox units for $6 a pop. The average price per unite was 12 smackeroos, so this should have helped clients turn those frown lines upside down. Keep your ear to the ground: The spa has plans for another botox special, but dates aren’t nailed down yet.
