Best Boob Wranglers

The women on staff at Amelia Madden

At most places, getting fitted for a bra is awkward: you’re lifting up your arms and sticking out your ladies to let some college kid reach around you with a measuring tape before announcing a size you just swear can’t be correct. But this awkwardness is nowhere to be found at Amelia Madden (2646 S. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, 417-720-4003,
Ameliamadden.com
). The women on staff here are all trained professionals, and they know all about how to make the situation anything but weird. Also, once you get your size, you can test out their accuracy with one of their fabulous bras (available in about every size imaginable), and they’ll try their best to send you home in a bra so comfortable and supportive, you’ll never want to take it off.

Best Place to Shop Backin Time in Style

Arnie’s General Store

Next time you’re out to dinner at Top of the Rock (150 Top of the Rock Rd., Hollister, 417-339-5339, topoftherock.com), swing by Arnie’s General Store and treat yourself to a few goodies to take back home. As in all things Top of the Rock and Johnny Morris, this place is truly a sight to be seen and complete with the most well-crafted rustic touches. The little building is oh-so-cute and nostalgic you’ll wish you could vacation in it, and it’s filled with candles, bath items, teas and delicious foods, plus jewelry, pottery and wood presentation trays that are all made by local craftspeople. And the best part? It all echoes a charm of yesteryear.

Best Place to Get in Touch with Your Spirit Animal

Springfield Leather Company

So, you just finished a Buzzfeed quiz online, and you learned that your spirit animal is a cow. Before you get depressed and start Googling new diets, head over to Springfield Leather Company (1463 S. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, 417-881-0223, Springfieldleather.com) and pick yourself up a cowhide rug to display in your living room. If you didn’t get cow, you’re still in luck: This Springfield spot sells animal goods from pretty much every animal that’s legal to sell. Yep! This means you’ll also find goat kid skins, alligator skins and ostrich hides in addition to furs, leather bags and countless other animal-associated goodies. If you’re not quite so into the animal thing, you should still stop by: there’s also handmade jewelry, art and other fabulous goodies up for grabs.

Best Place to Buy Local Art

Fresh Gallery

Maybe you’d love to buy some local art to decorate your home, but you’re a bit intimidated to walk into a gallery. We get it—some of those places can seem a bit stuffy. This is not the case at Fresh Gallery (400 W. Walnut St., Springfield, 417-862-9300, freshgallery.org). A fiscal agency of the Springfield Regional Arts Council, this downtown spot is dedicated to promoting fine art and craft of 20 Springfield artists, and it’s anything but stuffy. Also, it’s affordable: You don’t have to go in and buy a life-size mural. Fresh sells smaller art, too, including framed pieces and prints that are great for those not-so-huge spots you want to fill with some local flavor.

Best Boutique in an Unexpected Spot

Acacia Spa

What’s better than a day at the spa? A day at the spa combined with shopping, of course! We love that you can enjoy both at Acacia Spa (1536 E. Primrose St., Springfield, 417-823-8318, acacia-spa.com) thanks to Acacia’s in-spa boutique. The store sells several lines of skincare products and a wide range of makeup, which means you can keep that facial looking fresh for months to come. And while you’re here, you can also pick up a new outfit and jewelry to wear for the evening, as well as some lotion or a candle for your best friend.

Best Place We Can Finally Shop Again

Stores near National Avenue and Republic Road

For what seemed like an eternity, there was what we would call a giant bleeping traffic nightmare at the area formerly known as Republic Road and National Avenue. You couldn’t drive your car within 1,000 feet of the spot without being forced to dodge potholes through a maze of traffic cones. But at last, the construction is nowhere to be found, and we can freely shop at all of our favorites! We’re up for a day of choosing funny cards at Baglady Boutique (1111 E Republic Rd., Springfield, 417-882-4438, bagladyboutique.com), picking up some new outdoor gear at Ozark Adventures (1111 E. Republic Rd. Suite # 140, Springfield, 417-889-6633,
ozarkadventures.com)
and then finding a snazzy new water bottle at
Dynamic Earth (1110 E. Republic Rd., Springfield, 417-887-8855). Later we’ll pick up a trendy new top at Blue Raven Emporium (1601 E. Republic Rd., Springfield, blueravenemporium.com, 417-425-8284) and some new home accessories at James Decor (1324 E. Republic Rd. Springfield, jameshomedecor.com, 417-883-2616), then get some dinner at Arris Pizza (1332 E Republic Rd, Springfield, 417-881-7260, arrispizzaonline.com). Why not? There’s reason to celebrate!

Best Place to Get Tailoring on the Spot

Men’s Suit Mart

Did you wait a little too long to order your suit for that upcoming fundraiser? Well, have no fear: You can still show up looking like a million bucks with a little help from Men’s Suit Mart (2730 S. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, 417-889-7848, menssuitmart.com). Any guy who buys a suit here benefits from tailoring on the spot right after the purchase, so you can walk out the door looking like the snazzy get up was made just for you. Also, an added bonus: Men’s Suit Mart tailors previously sold items to fit you if you lose a few pounds in the future, too, as long as it was purchased from the store originally. And for those of you who didn’t purchase your suit from Men’s Suit Mart? You can still bring the item by, but it won’t have priority.
