Behind the Design

It’s time to start planning those trips to the lake and to start soaking up the sun. Here are some ways to protect yourself from those harmful rays without missing out on all the fun.

I love a golden tan just as much as the next person, but what I don’t love is sun damage. For me, tanning oils and beds are a thing of the past. Now I fully embrace today’s high-end self tanners. No stinky smell or orange streaks, these tans in a bottle are better than the real thing.

1. Tan in a Can

No orange hands here. This Tahitian Tan Mist from South Seas ($5.28 at Acacia Spa) gives the most lovely, even and natural-looking tan on the go.

2. For Your Face

Obagi Sun Shield TINT ($51.50 at Acacia Spa) is a tinted sunscreen offering subtle coverage while protecting your face with SPF 50.

3. After Sun Exposure

If you happened to get too much sun, this SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel ($64 at CoxHealth Med Spa) is the solution to your troubles. The cucumber is soothing, and the hyaluronic acid decreases inflammation.

4. Color Stay

From the makers of Big Sexy Hair Spray comes Vibrant Sexy Hair Color Lock Hairspray ($19.14 at Acacia Spa). This spray protects your color from fading in the sun and gives you a hold that fights the effects of humidity!

5. Hair Repair

De-tangle and nourish your locks with Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Keratin Cream Rinse ($22.99 at Price Cutter). The wild ginger smell is lovely, and it’s perfect after a day at the pool.

6. Powder SPF

Not a fan of sunscreen creams on your face? Try Jane Iredale Powder-Me SPF Dry Sunscreen ($47 at CoxHealth Med Spa). It’s perfect for storing in your purse to have on the go. It has SPF 30, is waterproof up to 40 minutes and can even be used on a sunburn to soothe your skin.

7. For Your Bod

This COOLA Eco-Lux Sport SPF 50 Guava Mango Sunscreen Spray ($32 at Acacia Spa) not only smells amazing, but it is also water resistant up to 80 minutes, is antioxidant-infused and is made with organic ingredients.
