You might call Andrea Alcorn a trendsetter, and not only because she is one of young Springfield’s foremost arbiters of wedding and big-event style. When opening her business a year and a half ago, Andrea had the foresight to nab one of the first spaces in the hotter-than-hot Wilhoit Plaza—and one of the biggest to boot.
But, of course, Andrea herself has turned the location into what it is: A top destination for local brides, prom attendees and debutantes who want to look like a million bucks without spending as much. Springfield’s bridal market is either ancient (think McDaniel) or super high-end (think Ella Weiss). With Gracie’s, Andrea sought a classy, elegant space with prices most anyone could afford. Moreover, each customer is treated to Andrea’s personal attention—and Andrea is a woman who understands how a special day can make a woman feel. “When I was little, I asked my mom to place an ad in the paper, I wanted to be a flower girl so bad,” says Andrea (who has yet to be a bride herself). “It’s fun to come to work when I know I’m going to make someone happy.” At some point Andrea hopes to do the same at Gracie’s locations beyond Springfield.
An active Junior League member (she planned the recent Pitter Pat 5K and fun run), Andrea spends her few free hours rooting on the Mizzou football team, pining for a chance to travel, and spending time with friends and family.
