Drummer, ICON Cadence Drum Show; Polysomnography Technician, St. John’s
Born: April 23, 1985
Chances are, when you hear the Cadence Drum Show at ICON Nightclub, you’re not paying much attention to the dudes doing the beating. If you are, you’re probably wondering what possesses someone to do such a thing, and what they do during the day. Surely it can’t be a sustaining job, right?
Well, it might just be, but Brandon Alexander isn’t taking any chances. The 23-year-old was the first to tell us that the Cadence Drum Show (a division of ICON owner Paul Sundy’s entertainment empire) had been invited to Las Vegas to audition live for the 2008 season of America’s Got Talent, the reality TV contest that made Branson’s The Duttons household names last year (geez, thanks, NBC). The drummers do not yet know whether they’ll be brought back for the live portion of the show, which airs in August, but they will appear on at least two of the preliminary-round episodes beginning in June. “I love the atmosphere, the lights, the crowd and everything about it,” Brandon says of Cadence. “It’s like getting to live out your rock star fantasy every weekend.”
Weekdays are a different story. Brandon is a polysomnographer for St. John’s, a registered EMT, a part-time improv comedy performer and an in-training triathlete. Brandon is medical-school bound come fall—unless, of course, Cadence finds fame and fortune. “In 10 to 20 years I’d like to be a successful ER doctor or pediatrician,” he says. “On the side I hope to fund a Cadence of my own.”
What’s your favorite:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I am a huge Jim Carrey fan.
It would definitely have to be Arrested Development. It was only around for a few years but it was by far the funniest show I have ever seen... ever. I also am a big fan of Flight of the Conchords and South Park. I am a big comedy fan.
I have sort of a small obsession with Incubus. I learned how to play almost all of their songs on the guitar and have frequent jam sessions with my friends.
Childhood cartoon character?
Definitely the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Guinness is just amazing.
Local bar AND restaurant (name both)?
Of course Icon because it has the coolest drum show ever...haha. The restaurant would probably have to be Big Whiskey's. (I think that answer deserves a raise.)
Song to play on the guitar?
Anything by Incubus.
Brand of athletic shoe?
Whatever fits my unnecessarily large feet.
What’s the first website you check every day?
iGoogle.. I have to keep up with the gmail.
One night, no consequences, whom do you seduce?
I would have to say Britney Spears... no earlier than about 3-4 years ago. Anything sooner than that I would have to go with Michelle Branch. Wierd hu
What’s the best thing about being younger than 30?
I think I am at a time in my life where the possibilities are endless. I am just so excited to be where I am in my life right now and I a cant wait to see whats in store. I like being young because I feel like I have my whole life ahead of me and I just want to experience as much as I can while I can.
