Communications Coordinator, Nixa R-2 Schools

Born: June 9, 1980

It’s rare that we feature someone in this issue who is in the process of switching jobs. But Zac Rantz, the PR and communications specialist for Nixa Public Schools, isn’t changing so much as he’s focusing. After six years in the classroom, Zac, who led Nixa High School students to awards and honors as a journalism and web-design teacher, is taking an administrative role in one of the fastest-growing districts in the state. “[Communications] has been one of those part time things that’s more than part-time,” Zac says. As of May 21, Zac’s duties will include dealing with the media, notifying press and parents about cancellations and schedule changes due to weather, and coordinating the district’s website and e-mail program. His recent Master’s in Integrated Marketing from Drury will ensure he remains a vital part of his home town district, where he grew up and graduated in 1998.

But Zac’s impact doesn’t end with Nixa Schools. He’s also an actor—mostly through children’s ministry at Springfield’s Second Baptist Church—and lead singer for local Christian rock band Human Anyway. Soon he’ll begin work on his doctorate, and hopes to remain in education. “I’m going to go wherever the life leads me,” Zac says. “My ultimate goal is world domination.” Nixa isn’t a bad place to start.

What's Your Favorite:

This all depends on what mood I am in. Romeo and Juliet or 10 Things I Hate About You. I'm a big Shakespeare nut, and I like seeing them adapted into modern-day situations.

TV Show?
ER or The Office

Other than my band, Human Anyway, I would go for Switchfoot or Jeff Johnson.

Childhood cartoon character?
Bugs Bunny

Sports team?
St. Louis Cardinals

Adult beverage?
Peppermint white chocolate mocha or a caramel frappuchino

Local bar AND restaurant?
Ruby Tuesday's salad bar and Buffalo Wild Wings or Kai, depending on what I am craving.

Thing to say to a petulant student?
"Good for you!"

"Totally realistic" movie about teaching?
It hasn't been made yet. They should come film teachers on a daily basis... that would be more interesting than any movie made. In fact, there is reality show  right there.

What’s the first website you check every day?
My email account

One night, no consequences, whom do you seduce?
I'm not big on seducing people, but I'd take Kelly Clarkson out for a nice dinner.

What’s the best thing about being younger than 30?
I still have the whole world in front of me to conquer.
