The Architectural Ambassador

Stephanie Shadwick, 25

Associate Architect and Asia Manager, Butler Rosenbury & Partners

At the fresh age of 25, Stephanie Shadwick is helping establish Butler Rosenbury as a leader in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies: China. At the drop of a hat last year, the Drury grad and Springfield native accepted a six-month assignment to a country she’s never been to and couldn’t speak the language. Stephanie, currently an associate international architect and Butler Rosenbury’s Asia manager, spent six months as the firm’s eyes and ears for a large-scale, joint Chinese-American development in Macau, China, and managed to learn enough Chinese to get by in a country where English is hardly spoken. Outside work, Stephanie spends time biking and running, and with professional groups like the American Institute of Architects’ Young Architects Forum. She also has the most hilariously named pet of anyone on this year’s list: a blind cat named Spooker. In any language, that’s funny.
