Geoffrey Butler, of the architecture and landscape design firm Butler, Rosenbury & Partners, designed this house with a wrap-around porch for a tough consumer: his wife, Buffy.
A long time coming: Buffy and Geoffrey owned the land where this home sits for nearly a decade before building.
Butler went through many designs while planning the house, including six versions of this rail overlooking the main floor.
Built for flow: Butler wanted to minimize hall space, so he created an open floor plan where the rooms flowed from one to the other.
While the outside has a cozy country look, the inside of their home has a more contemporary feel.
The kitchen, with commercial-grade stainless-steel countertops and matching appliances, is both modern and warm.
The master bedroom draws from the same color palette as the rest of the Butler's meticulously planned home.
The master suite was built around their whirlpool from Japan.
