Alpine Wood Products, in Marionville.

THE SHOP: Alpine Wood Products, 614 W. Jonathon Dr., Marionville, 417-258-2584, alpinewoodproducts.com. Open Mon.–Fri 8–4:30 p.m.

KEY PEOPLE: John Boyd is the current general manager/president of Alpine Wood Products. Boyd was the original owner of the business, which he started 26 years ago in a 2,000-square-foot building in Marionville with his dad, brother and uncle. Donna and Gary Hall were clients of Boyd, and they bought the business from his family eight years ago.

ATMOSHPERE: Before I traveled to Marionville to see Alpine Wood Products, Boyd gave me very few directions and said “Don’t worry, there’s no way you could miss it.” I was a bit skeptical, but decided to trust him. Once I arrived, I understood what he meant. The business’s exterior, which was designed by Ron Hill of EuroWorld Designs, looks more like a castle than a product showroom.

As I walked through the double iron and glass doors, I felt like I was stepping into an extravagant multimillion-dollar home. The entryway greeted me with a grand see-through fireplace. A crystal chandelier by Fine Art Lamps hangs from the ceiling, which features a beautiful hand-painted mural by Michael Middleton.

The showroom continued to impress me as I walked through. There is custom-made woodwork and furniture everywhere, all set up to feel like different rooms in a home. As I looked around, I couldn’t help but imagine what all the pieces would look like in my dream home.

Next, John took me into the 70,000-square-foot plant (which all customers can tour). It was rather hectic: I heard the radio blaring, countless saws buzzing and workers shouting instructions. As John walked me around the gigantic workspace, I got to see a variety of commercial and residential furniture pieces. My mind was overwhelmed, amazed and very impressed.

WHAT YOU’LL FIND: The showroom features a variety of custom-made cabinetry, doors, moldings, ceiling beams, buffets, vanities… the list goes on. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can tell them what you want and have Alpine Wood Products create it for you. There are four kitchen areas, a bar, a wine cellar, bathrooms and even a garage and a children’s playhouse on display. In addition to the wood products, there are also a variety of lighting fixtures and other furniture pieces for sale.

417 VERDICT: If you’re building or remodeling a home, this place is like a dream. The showroom is designed with elegance and class, and no details were forgotten. The workers are kind, informative and ready to answer questions. There is a hint of modern décor, but the majority of the shop leans toward the French country and Old World styles. But even if that’s not your cup of tea, you may find something you like among the variety. It’s definitely worth the drive.
