Sisters-in-law Stacey Cox, Carissa Cox and Holly Cox operate BoatHouse Boutique, a store at State Park Marina on Table Rock Lake. All merchandise in the store has to be delivered on golf carts

A stop by the marina before a day at the lake typically includes shopping for bait, a bag of ice and maybe a few drinks. But at BoatHouse Boutique, it includes a whole lot more.

Located at State Park Marina, this on-the-water wonderland is filled with everything from stylish sandals and swimsuits to trendy clothing and home décor. You can even purchase scuba diving equipment here, or grab a burger and a snow cone. “Our store is all about having fun,” says Holly Cox, who co-owns the store with sisters-in-law Carissa Cox and Stacey Cox. “People come here when they’re on vacation. We want everyone to have a good time.”

A summertime hotspot on Table Rock Lake, BoatHouse Boutique actually floats right next to the shore. In fact, thanks to its water-top location, all of the inventory has to be brought down on golf carts before it can enter the boutique doors. And there’s a ton of merchandise to be transported, because the store carries something for everyone in the family. Dad can head over to rent a boat while Mom walks around and browses the stylish clothing, swimsuits, jewelry and purses on display. “We sell everything from live bait to an entirely new outfit,” Holly says. Thanks to all the unexpected goodies, the ladies often find themselves wanting to shop a while. There’s a fitting room to try on new lake-chic looks, and there’s even a large display of sandals in the back to complete a new ensemble. There is also a section loaded with plenty of home décor, perfect for a gift, or a finishing touch for the lake house. And the little ones love it here, too, because there are toys, swimsuits and tees for them, and even a large open area on the dock where they can feed giant fish who regularly swim around.

After shopping, the family can grab a quick bite or a snowcone, then hop on their boat for an afternoon in the sun. It truly is one-stop shopping, and much more than you would ever expect to find on a marina.

Q&A BoatHouse Boutique

417 Magazine: Describe a typical day at BoatHouse Boutique.

Carissa Cox: A typical day would include visitors from all over the Midwest looking for fun activities to do on the lake. Usually the men are renting boats, children are feeding the fish and the women are shopping!

417: What is the most important feeling you want to create for shoppers?

Stacey Cox: I think the most important thing is that they are happily surprised when they walk in the store. We want them to find what they are needing for their day on the lake, and hopefully something extra special to take home for memories.

417: What do you look for when ordering merchandise?

Holly Cox: When planning our selections, we look for high-quality items that define the lake lifestyle. We are constantly searching for new and exciting things to offer every type of water enthusiast. It’s a challenge having a selection of merchandise that covers such a wide range of activities. I’m confident that we offer stylish options from head to toe, whether you’re in the water or out.

417: How does your store’s location on the lake change the mood?

C.C.: I think with both our staff and guests, the lake atmosphere creates a feeling of excitement, activity and youthfulness.

417: What is the most important thing about your merchandise?

H.C.: Our merchandise will surprise you. Visitors who walk in expecting to find bait and beef jerky might walk out wearing a new outfit. Having great merchandise and a unique shopping experience is an added bonus to our lake activities at State Park Marina.

417: What does BoatHouse Boutique offer that isn’t available at any other store in 417-land?

C.C.: Where else can you rent a boat, go parasailing, take a catamaran cruise, eat great food and shop for resort wear, gifts, jewelry, hats, shoes and more, all from the same place?
