Baby, Oh Baby!

Plan, prepare and get ready for the latest addition to your family.

Why is it that everyone wants to hold a baby? You go to dinner at a friend’s house, and someone there has a new baby. You don’t even really know the person, but you just have to get your hands on the little bundle. And you find yourself grinning from ear to ear, saying things like “coochie-coo” and “yes, dat’s a tweet wittle bay-bee” in a silly voice. Why? Because babies are simply joyful. Despite the fact that newborns dirty about 70 diapers per week—300 diapers per month, folks—they are miraculous little beings that rely on their mommies and daddies to meet every need in order to survive. (Oh, and if you have twins, you can double that diaper duty—try 140 diapers per week or 600 per month. Seriously. And how about those parents of quadruplets and quintuplets? Yeah, you do the math.)

Babies are not only messy little creatures, they deprive you of sleep. Just because your mother says you were sleeping through the night by the time you were 3 months old doesn’t mean your baby will be. It’s a nice thought. But ask any new mom, and she’ll probably tell you one thing she misses most is a full night’s sleep.

And your life totally changes after having a baby. You can’t just go and do as you please anymore. You have to check with Baby first. Have dinner plans with friends tonight? Not anymore! Baby came down with a fever. And then of course Baby grows up. He enters the terrible twos, and then becomes an impossible teen. He keeps you up at night when he misses his curfew. Then he goes to college, takes all your money, comes home on the weekends and eats all your food, and you’re still doing his laundry!
So… (gulp)… are you sure you want to have a baby? Well, of course you do! Despite the changes they bring, babies are one of the greatest joys of life, if not the greatest joy. So in an effort to help you have a healthy, happy pregnancy in 417-land with very few surprises, we’ve created a monthly pregnancy planner for you. We start with conception (hubba, hubba) and end when you bring Baby home.
