Dream Homes, Realized
A new home décor shop in downtown Springfield mixes contemporary design with warm, comfortable style.
The Shop: Obelisk Home, 214 West Phelps St., Suite 101, Springfield, 417-616-6488 (Mon.–Fri. 11 a.m.–7 p.m., Sat. 11 a.m.–5 p.m.)
Atmosphere: Stepping into Obelisk Home feels a lot like stepping into a high-end, private home gallery somewhere on the East coast. With exquisite furnishings, unique accessories and luxurious rugs, this new home décor store in downtown Springfield is a shopping experience you aren’t likely to forget. Situated in a renovated building, the exposed brick walls and recycled wood beams create the perfect background for accessories and furnishings inspired by nature.
Key People: Located off the beaten path on Phelps Street, just west of Boonville Avenue, when you find Obelisk you feel like you’ve found a secret gem. Store manager Haden Long believes Obelisk Home is just the beginning for this once-bypassed street. Owners Nathan Taylor and J. Martin have purchased all of the buildings along Phelps between Boonville and Campbell Avenue, with plans for lofts, retail space and a restaurant. “We hope to rehab the area with new offices, shops and a coffee shop,” Long says.

Taylor and Martin, owners of Bridge Blue Sourcing Partners, a custom home décor business, opened Obelisk Home as a way to market their design esthetic directly to Springfield customers. “Our items are unique and designed by our product development team at BridgeBlue Sourcing Partners,” Long says. “Some of our items are one-of-a-kind or prototypes of designs.” Working together to develop a creative driving force, Martin creates a look while Taylor focuses on decorating.
What You’ll Find: Long describes the items found in Obelisk Home as an eclectic mix of furniture styles. It has a neutral palette with touches of drama. Expect to find dark mahogany and cherry wood tables, as well as sideboards, couches and chairs covered with textured fabrics in unique shapes. Much of the furniture can be custom-ordered with your choice of fabric and pattern, allowing for a truly individualized shopping experience. On my recent trip to the store, customers looking for a one-of-a-kind piece for their living room were encouraged to sit with a large catalogue and pick out the right fabrics for them. Haden believes this attention to individual style sets Obelisk Home apart from chain furniture stores found in 417-land. “Our store is a collaborative collection of products that will always change and reflect creativity and will continually be refreshed,” she says, adding that the majority of the items cannot be restocked once they are sold.
But don’t expect to just find furniture. Obelisk Home has eclectic accessories and gifts on tables and shelves throughout the store. Archipelago and Vance Kitira candles, frames ranging in price from $29–$49 and even pet accessories and beds from Unleashed Life.
And, as a show of support for the community, you’ll also find art from local painters and sculptors as Obelisk Home is one of the newest additions to downtown Springfield’s First Friday Art Walk.
417 Verdict: Obelisk Home is a store not to be missed. If you are searching for a whole new look for your living room, or just an accessory to add pop and a sense of awe to any room, take a look at this new place to shop in a new part of downtown Springfield. You’ll be tempted to keep it a secret, but you won’t be able to.
