Elkins Home Gallery: March 2011
Ben Elkins built the home he shares with his wife, Patti, and she was responsible for its interior design. The result is a comfortable south Springfield home that’s a little Tuscan, a tad traditional and a whole lot gorgeous.

Ben and Patti Elkins make quite the team. Ben is a builder and the owner of Elkins Homes and BK&D Painting, and Patti is an interior designer and the owner of PJE Interior Designs. Together, the couple has built and designed a couple of the homes they’ve lived in throughout the years, and they’ve almost perfected the process. “I can truly say that there’s not one thing I’d change about this house,” Patti says of their latest build, a 6,000-square-foot home in south Springfield.
As the two were planning the home, they wanted to create a very open feel. “We knew we wanted something with an easy flow,” Patti says.
But the style of this free-flowing home isn’t something that Patti can easily define. “The exterior has more of a country French look, but on the inside, the textured walls give it more of a Tuscan feel,” Patti says. “And a lot of my furniture is traditional.” But regardless of how she defines it, the home’s style is comfortable and inviting. “It’s a mix that appeals to a lot of people,” Patti says. “That’s kind of what I was going for.”
