417 Magazine: Finish this sentence: "I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing..."
Michael Grassa: A scarf in the summer, tennis shoes when not working out or sandals when I’m not on the beach!

417: What’s a fashion trend you wish would go away?
M.G.: High heel sneakers. Sorry ladies, I do not think they will pass time gracefully!

417: What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a must-have piece of clothing? What was it, and where did you get it?
M.G.: $600 for Yuketen Boots at Context Clothing. They are handmade in the USA and are absolutely gorgeous!

417: What’s the best bargain you’ve ever found? How much did it cost, and where did you find it?
M.G.: GANT Rugger overcoat and suit, retail value around $1,500. I ended up buying store credit at pennies on the dollar and then the website I bought credit from hit a glitch and marked everything down in the store 50 percent one night. Caught the sale and never looked back. Paid around $200 for the suit and wool overcoat. I was thrilled!

417: What’s your favorite outfit/article of clothing you’ve ever worn?
M.G.: Woolrich Woolen Mills outerwear. Really any outerwear by Daiki Suzuki, the man is a genius.

417: What single item in your closet defines your style?
M.G.: I try to focus on 3 things: denim, shoes and outerwear. But if I had to pick one thing that I keep coming back to, it would have to be denim.

417: What do you think is the worst fashion faux pas?
M.G.: Men’s sandals. They’re terrible.

417: What is your favorite fashion trend right now?
M.G.: The Americana look, everything made in the USA and dry denim.

417: Where do you find fashion inspiration?
M.G.: More of an era than an individual. Anything with age, the “classics”—classic Americana.

417: Who are your fashion role models?
M.G.: I got my sense of fashion from my mother. Other than that, Steve McQueen and Rat Pack.

417: What three words define your style?
M.G.: Classic, casual, bold.

417: What are your favorite places to shop for clothes in 417-land?
M.G.: MODERN Society. They have a good men’s section.

417: What are your favorite places to shop that are not in 417-land?
M.G.: Baldwin Denim, Unionmade Goods, Context Clothing, Wharf, Need Supply and, my favorite, eBay!

417: What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever worn?
M.G.: I’d have to go with these Mossimo T-shirts, oversized flannel and baggy jeans, but then again it was the ‘90s. What were we thinking?

417: Do you ever shop at thrift stores? If so, what do you look for there?
M.G.: Never. But I would look for germs!

417: How long does it take you to get ready to go out/go to work?
M.G.: Around an hour.

417: If you could only wear one brand/designer for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
M.G.: Tough question, but Baldwin denim for basics, Woolrich Woolen Mills for coats and blazers, and Alden Shoes. Trifecta!
