Stephanie Jernigan

44, stay-at-home mother and Junior League of Springfield volunteer

417 Magazine: Who is your fashion role model?

Stephanie Jernigan: I love seeing what Rachel Zoe is wearing. She always has a piece of clothing or accessory that makes her outfit pop, like a cool coat, necklace or hat.

417: What three words define your personal style?

S.J.: Boho chic, versatile and comfortable.

417: What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever worn?

S.J.: The most embarrassing thing I have ever worn is a Wonder Women outfit for Halloween—one of those things you do for your kids.

417: What’s the best bargain you’ve ever found?

S.J.: The best bargain I have found was a pair of Adriano Goldschmied jeans for $20 from The Plaid Door.

417: What is your favorite fashion trend right now?

S.J.: My favorite fashion trend right now is the skinny jean with a longer sweater or shirt with booty boots accented with a faux fur vest. It is comfortable but still put-together.

417: What fashion trend do you wish would go away?

S.J.: I am not excited that high-waisted pants are making a comeback.

417: What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a must-have piece of clothing?

S.J.: The most I allow myself to spend is $200 on a single item of clothing unless it is boots or a fur coat.

417: What’s your occupation?

S.J.: I am a stay-home mother who loves being there for my kids and their school. I enjoy volunteering as a member of the Junior League of Springfield.

417: Where do you find fashion inspiration?

S.J.: When my kids are at school, I love visiting our local boutiques here in 417-land to see what is fun and new to their floors. When relaxing in the evening, I enjoy reading In Style magazine and browsing on-line.

417: What’s your signature piece?

S.J.: My signature pieces would have to be my Virgins, Saints & Angels jewelry because I enjoy showing my faith.

417: How long does it take you to get ready to go out or go to work?

S.J.: It takes me about an hour to get ready to go out on the town.

417: If you could wear one brand or designer for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

S.J.: It would have to be Rachel Zoe’s collections because she has such a great style from head to toe.

417: Finish this sentence: “I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing...”

S.J.: Daisy Duke short shorts.

417: What are your favorite places to shop that are in 417-land?

S.J.: Staxx, Harem and The Uptown Boutique.

417: What are your favorite places to shop that are not in 417-land?

S.J.: My favorite places to shop that are not in 417-land are Free People, Anthropologie and Lululemon.

417: What do you think is the worst fashion faux pas?

S.J.: I think the worst fashion Faux pas is being able to see someone’s bra under a see-through blouse.

417: Do you shop at thrift stores? If so, what do you look for?

S.J.: I shop at The Plaid Door when I am working there for the Junior League, but besides that I don’t.

417: What’s your favorite outfit or article of clothing you’ve ever worn?

S.J.: My favorite outfit I have ever worn has to be my wedding dress on the most important day of my life.

See the Best Dressed winners walk the runway at 417 Magazine’s Fashionation: Spring Fashion Show and Party. The show is at the Gillioz Theatre at 7 p.m. on March 20.
