Health at your Fingertips

Gone are the days when you have to go to the doctor’s office to get information about your healthcare. Now much of the information you need to take control of your health is available through online patient portals that you can access anywhere. We outline what you need to know about your hospital’s portal.

MyChart at Citizens Memorial Hospital

The CMH healthcare system has 36,000 patients logging into their MyChart portals. There, patients can request appointments, communicate with their doctors, request prescription refills and pay their bills. Denni McColm, the chief information officer for CMH, says the most popular ways patients use the portal are to view lab results, manage appointments and view their children’s immunization records. She also says physicians and clinic staff are happy with the secure messaging system to save time returning patients’ phone calls. The MyChart records are used throughout the hospital’s system to provide information to clinics, long-term caregivers and families. Patients can also authorize parents, children and other family members access to their information.

CoxHealth Express

In 2015, almost 20,000 CoxHealth patients logged in to their online accounts, making the total number of patients using Express just more than 63,000 and growing. Patients are using the portal to communicate with their doctors; view lab results, medication lists and personal charts,;and renew prescriptions. Those with chronic conditions can also write journal entries to keep their doctor up to date on changes in blood sugar, weight or cholesterol. Express users can also schedule eVisits with their doctor to save time and access their accounts with employer-sponsored wellness programs.

Between Springfield and Joplin, nearly 200,000 Mercy patients are logging on to their patient portals. Patients are using their accounts to pay bills, renew prescriptions, set reminders, view test results, track their health, keep their information updated and more. One of the most commonly used features is e-visits, where patients can submit their symptoms online and their doctor will get back to them with a treatment plan and prescriptions. Parents can also keep a growth chart for their kids and have access to immunization records. MyMercy is also connected to the billing office, so patients can send messages and questions to the office and print receipts for their Health Savings Accounts and Flex Spending plans.
