The Scoop: October 29

The Scoop: October 29

There are some really neat developments happening on the local food-and-drink scene. Let’s get to it, shall we?

1. Earlier this month our kid sister mag, GO Magazine, published a story about Doug Draper and Kris Frost, who are opening a new microbrewery on Commercial Street (on the northwest corner of Commercial Street and Lyon Avenue, to be specific). The project, named C-Street Brewing, is reusing the equipment formerly used by Hickok’s downtown and, before that, Ry Bread and Apple Cor’s in Chesterfield Village.

Starting at a capacity of about 1,000 barrels per year, Frost and Draper will seek to sell their beer—likely a couple of varieties of ale to begin—from their tasting bar on C-Street, as well as through local retailers. A larger pub operation, Frost says, is something he’ll wait for another investor to begin. You can learn more about C-Street Brewing on their Facebook page.

2. We’re hearing official word about Farmers Gastropub, a new-concept bar/restaurant going into Wilhoit Plaza (431 S. Jefferson Ave.) in November. Taking over the long-vacant former Ophelia’s spot, Farmers would purchase only locally produced meat and produce, use 100 percent recyclable materials, and more.

3. The southside has another late-night breakfast option, but it’s not a new face: Scrambler’s. The breakfast-scene fixture’s West Republic Road location is now staying open from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., Thursday through Saturday. Partiers from Parlor 88, New Key Largo and W.F. Cody’s (among others) now have a non-Waffle House spot to fill their bellies before they call a cab. Way to go, Scrambler’s.

With that in mind, here’s your Table Talk Feedback question of the week: When you crave a late-night breakfast, where do you go? Send your responses to matt@417mag.com.
