The Scoop: October 8
The foodie geek-out around our offices this week came courtesy of Johnson Tan, the co-owner and chef behind Ocean Zen Pacific Rim, 5 Spice China Grill and Yum Yum Bowl. 417 assistant editor Melody Adams was interviewing Tan for a December piece (Why? You’ll have to wait until December!) when he dropped this bomb:
He and brother John plan to break ground in November on Roll In Roll Out Sushi Express, a drive-through sushi restaurant next door to 5 Spice on South Glenstone. Many of the rolls will come from Ocean Zen, Tan says, with some originals also on the menu. The plan is to open by Spring 2010.
Also from Tan: Yum Yum Bowl has moved beyond Asian fare. The quick-dining spot on Battlefield (just a couple of doors east of Ocean Zen) is now offering pasta bowls, with items like fried chicken and mashed potatoes planned in the future.
Feedback
Finally, we got a number of unsolicited e-mails from fans of Minsky’s, the K.C.-based pizza place moving into the old Kaldi’s location in Battlefield Marketplace. The best of the bunch comes from Crystal: “… I'm originally from KC and Minsky's is freakin' awesome! Their Prime Cut pizza is definitely my favorite pizza ever. I'm excited for Springfield to finally get a great pizza option.”
This week’s Feedback question: What’s one restaurant in 417-land that you’ve never tried, but desperately want to? E-mail us at matt@417mag.com.

I ate at Minsky's in KC for 20 years and LOVED it, and I am a picky pizza eater. If Minsky's is coming to Springfield, then it is very, very good news. It is some of the best pizza I have had anywhere in the country. Jonathan Frazier
