The Scoop: Staff Raves Vol. 2

The Scoop: Staff Raves Vol. 2

Time for another Staff Raves column! A refresher: Raves are submitted by the 417 Magazine staff. They are dishes we have eaten recently and loved and want to share with you. Of course we want to hear your raves, too. Please e-mail me your favorite dishes at matt@417mag.com.

Rae, Megan and Deb are all eating… the tomato bisque at Pickleman’s. Says Rae: “It is a little creamy, a little spicy and delicious. My only complaint is the portion size. I could eat twice as much as they give you!” Megan recommends ordering it with a grilled cheese sandwich, which she dunked in the bisque.

Dylan is eating… the cheese skirt at the Squeeze Inn in Stockton. (pictured) “The burger at the Squeeze Inn was so huge, I literally had to 'squeeze' out of my seat once I was done,” he said. For more on Dylan’s quest to conquer the skirt, read this month’s dining review.

Logan is eating… Mexican gumbo at Qdboa. It’s like a burrito without the mess of an oozing tortilla, with all the taste and spice you love about Qdoba.

Matt is eating… Rigatoni buttera at Avanzare. “If you like sausage, this is your dish. No one cooks their pasta as perfectly as Avanzare, and the sauce is spicy and complements the ground sausage perfectly."

Table Talk Feedback
Last week’s newsletter had one reader salivating, and he dropped us a line just to let us know we were torturing him with all the fall recipes. Sorry Bob! Just in case, you might not want to read about the apple butter tarts, just below there... oh, too late? (Extra points to Bob for answering the Feedback question about favorite breakfast spots, as well.)

Bob wrote: “Pumpkin soufflé last issue, Pumpkin pie mousse now… I don’t know if it’s the fact that I love pumpkin or the lightness to mousse, but this is the second newsletter in a row that I’m going to print the recipe and try it out at home. Keep ‘em coming! And it’s no late-night breakfast joint, but my all-time fave is Gailey’s downtown.”
