I know that there are a lot of things you have to do in life, but I think there are also things we need to do for our lives. I was hoping this would be one of those things for my mother.
My mother, Julie Guillebeau, is the hardest- working person I know. She gives in every way possible and puts her children before her own ambitions. I try and find occasions to show my appreciation. I went looking online for equestrian vacations and stumbled upon a week-long trail ride through the Loire Valley in France. I thought this was perfect. My mother enjoys many aspects of the French culture. Our last name is even French. She is fluent in the language, knows the cooking, lives in a French country–style house.
My mother is extremely good at finding reasons to work and not spend money. I thought I might have some difficulty getting her to go. So, in late January 2009, I e-mailed my mom the website link, hiddentrails.com, and one message: “I don’t want to hear any fuss over this. We’re going May 31st.” To my surprise, my mother did not hesitate at all.
