Stancer Home Gallery: October 2009
Howard and Connie Stancer took their love of home architecture and décor that’s often found in Colorado’s Vail Valley and used it for their own custom-built house in southern Springfield.
From summers filled with scenic hiking to some of the country’s best skiing in the winter, Colorado’s Vail Valley is hard to dislike. Springfield couple Howard and Connie Stancer, who have vacationed in the popular resort spot for the last 40 years, couldn’t agree more. In fact, Connie says it’s even where they found inspiration for their home’s design and décor.
“We knew we wanted something different,” Connie says. “On one trip, we saw a home being built in Arrowhead. That’s where we found a lot of ideas we knew we wanted to use in our house.” But instead of loading up a U-Haul and heading west, the Stancers traded the Rockies for the Ozark Mountains and built a home in Eaglesgate, a subdivision in south Springfield.
The home’s décor is a look that Connie, who operates Stancer Designs and has been an interior designer for nearly 20 years, describes as “European Colorado.” It’s filled with an eclectic mix of antiques and pieces Connie had from previous interior design projects. But from the refinished dining room table to the old confessional door from a Catholic church in Mexico, everything works together to create a warm and welcome feeling. “I haven’t ever had anyone walk in and not say ‘This house is so homey,’” Connie says.
