Hometown: Krystal was born in Fresno, California, but she was raised in Mount Vernon. She has also lived in Joplin and Omaha, Nebraska. She has resided in Springfield since 2003.
Family: Krystal has been married to Matthew Russell for ten years. She has two female labs, Charlie and Lilly.
What are your goals?
I would say that if you want to hit on the three goals of areas of my life: Maintain and grow relationships with friends and family. Work to be a partner in a CPA firm. Work to remain active in community and nonprofit organizations, which ever speaks to me and I feel passionate about at the time.
How do you deal with pressure?
I think the way I deal with pressure is really hard to define because I just do, but I take one thing at a time and move on to the next item. Make my focus on what it is at the time and not be distracted by other things.
What motivates you?
Something inside.
If you could start a new career, what would you do?
Attorney.
Who are your real-life heroes?
My sister because she is handicapped, and she still works harder everyday than the average person.
What’s your biggest fear?
Spiders. I really hate them. My heart beats faster, I can’t breathe. I can’t get near it.
What’s the best book you’ve read in the past year?
To Kill A Mockingbird. I just read it again. I’ve decided to read all the books I’ve read in college and high school because I didn’t retain them then because I had to read them.
What’s your favorite quote?
“The size of the window in which you give is the size of the window in which you receive”.
When are you happiest?
When I’m sitting on a beach in the sun reading a book and sitting next to my husband doing the same because that’s when we have the best time.
Do you have a prized possession?
My husband is my prize… not necessarily my possession.
What part of the world would you like to visit but haven’t?
Hawaii. We always want to go there, but we go to other great places and just haven’t made it there.
If you could share a taxi from the airport with any celerity, who would you choose?
Kenny Chesney. I met him too. A friend of mine is a school teacher in Reed Springs, and her father used to play fiddle for Kenny and got us meet and greet passes.
When you look in a mirror, what do you see?
Hazel eyes.
If you could eliminate a trait of your own, what would it be?
I would like to tame the type A personality. I don’t want to take it away, I just want to tame it. I could use some chilling out.
If you could go back to a certain age again, what would it be?
23. It’s the best time. I was in law school at the time. I had fun. I was learning. I had great friends. Virtually, the idea of responsibility wasn’t there yet. It was just a fun time in my life.
Give me three words that describe yourself.
Honest, personable and giving.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I’m working towards my greatest achievement. There’s always more.
What talent would you most like to have?
I would like to be able to sing, or should I say sing well. And play the guitar.
What do you know for sure?
Death and taxes.
When was the last time you did something reckless?
How about when I drove to work this morning, according to my husband. That’s what he would say.
What is your philosophy in life?
Make every day “count”.
If you had $1 million, how would you spend it?
I would pay off my excessive student loans, number 1. I would pay off my student loans, then donate money to charity and invest the rest.
What sort of work do you try to avoid or put off?
Lawn work and ironing. I don’t do either.
What do you worry about most?
Things I have no control over.
Can you describe a situation in which you feel you behaved courageously?
I was either in high school or just out of high school. I was a lifeguard and we had a diving board injury. I did not save the person alone, but the whole staff did. That was the worst injury accident we had.
What mistakes in your life have you learned from?
All of them.
What was your first job?
Probably babysitting, then my mom owned a tanning salon, and I was older with that. I worked at the tanning salon everyday.
