Quick Dish: St. Michael's Deli
If you are looking for a wonderful, fresh chicken salad, St. Michael’s (301 South Ave., 417-865-2315) is the place to visit. Yes, it has been a staple in Springfield for years, but it is so quaint that it sometimes falls off of our radar. I went there for lunch with 417 Editor Katie Pollock and our friend Kari for a pre-birthday lunch. All of us got the Chicken Salad—with different varieties of chicken. Mine was traditional, grilled chicken with some seasoning. Sounds boring I know, but it was not bland or dry at all. Katie went for the Cajun chicken while Kari opted for jerk. Both a little more zesty than mine, but all made a great salad, which is freshly chopped and topped with gorgonzola cheese, sunflower seeds and tomatoes. The house dressing is a light, balsamic—definitely the way to go. They have tons of other food options for lunch and dinner. We've heard the Italian BLT is amazing, and the burgers are some of the best in town.
