The Scoop: September 17
Interesting news from the southeast Springfield lunch scene. Emack and Bolio’s is on the move. But don’t you fret, bankers and law assistants: It’s just moving down Lone Pine to Galloway Village. Look for Emack’s ice cream, sandwiches and more on Lone Pine, on the west side of the road, just across from Sequiota Park, hopefully sometime in October. A helpful Emack's employee told us Emack's will likely close up shop in its current location, in the strip center just west of Metropolitan Grill. It’s the second move for the underrated lunch-headquarters which is owned by Steve Bingham; Emack’s started downtown in the former Venice spot across from Landers Theatre.
Also, look for the Grand Opening of Whole Hog BBQ on September 25. Owner Paul Sundy is excited to bring the championship barbecue to Springfield and, truth be told, we’re more than excited to taste it.
Which brings us to our Feedback question of the week: What is your drive-through caffeine jolt of choice? We’d personally go with Hot Shots on East Sunshine, but we’ve heard good things about Fog City and the new Dancing Mule stop on Glenstone south of Sunshine. Send me your thoughts at matt@417mag.com.
Last week’s best Feedback answer came from Bill Enos, who allllllmost likes a number of local sports bars, but not quite: “...Ebbets is the only place I know that has good TV and great chow. But, it’s hard to hear more than one game and not much outside. Rivals has TVs you can watch outside... but the chow leaves much to be desired. Galloway has a TV outside, but only one. Fox and Hound provides two good rooms for separate games and the food is okay, but nothing outside. The same goes for Skybox...”
Bill, Table Talk hopes you find what you’re looking for.
