Leann is originally from Houston, Missouri. She attended college in Bolivar and moved to Springfield in 1994. She is married to Chad, who owns a computer consulting company. They have three children: Alyssa, 11; Blake, 9; and Kaelyn, 22 months. Q+A with Leann
What do you think makes a woman beautiful?
“I think being able to have compassion for somebody else, and being true to who she is would probably be the top two things that I would consider.”
What’s your favorite source of inspiration?
“Music is very inspiring to me, depending on what I’m doing. If I’m at home creating or trying to design things, there’s always music going in our house.
What is your most prized possession?
“My wedding ring because it reminds me of my mother-in-law, who passed away a few months before the wedding. She was so excited for the wedding and I had the honor of wearing her ring during the ceremony.”
What are three words that describe you?
“Goofball, witty, compassionate.”
What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
“That I’m nice.”
What’s your favorite feature about yourself?
“My sense of humor I think. I can kind of find the humor in anything, and like I said, I’m a big goofball. If I fall on my face I can laugh at myself and roll with the punches.”
What has been your proudest moment, or what are you most proud of?
“Probably that I have great kids. I’m kind of proud of that. I have people all the time tell me how great my kids are. It kind of makes you feel good when you go places, and you see how well behaved your kids are. That’s kind of a personal accomplishment for me because that’s what I’ve done for the past however many years. And bringing my first daughter home from the hospital, and making it through that big hurdle with her.”
When you were a little girl, who did you think was the most beautiful woman?
“I always looked up to my mom, Lorene, because she was the oldest female so she kind of took on that motherly role early on. I know that she didn’t necessarily get the childhood that I’ve been fortunate enough to have but I’ve always admired her for that and learned a lot.”
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“Stay true to who you are.”
What’s your biggest goal in life?
“My biggest goal above all else is to raise happy, healthy kids who can positively contribute to their world when they’re my age.”
What are your hobbies?
“I’m pretty crafty by nature. I love to cook. I love to garden, although I’m not good at it. And just hanging out and spending time with my family and friends. I love to travel. I grew up in the country, I’m kind of a country girl, I just like outdoorsy things. I don’t always get as much time to do them as I want.”
Who is your celebrity crush?
“It’s a tie between Matthew McConaughey and Keith Urban.”
What was your worst date ever?
“When I was in college, I bought my first car all by myself, and the car dealer decided that as a congratulatory thing, he wanted to take me out to dinner. We went out to Hemingway’s, and he got so drunk, that I ended up leaving. I called him a cab, and I left.”
What’s your favorite way to spend a Saturday?
“Honestly, sleeping in and just hanging out with family and really not doing anything. No plans, nowhere to be, just having a lazy day.”
What is your Facebook status right now?
“Great weekend. Yummy dinner last night with friends. Awesome lunch today with the family for Father’s Day. My kids are back home from the Bahamas so the house is loud and chaotic as usual. I love it.”
If you could invite anyone to dinner, who would it be and why?
“Gene Simmons. I honestly think that after watching the “Family Jewels” show, he’s a very smart businessman and despite his stage character, he’s actually a fairly ‘normal’ dad. And he’s got a sense of humor that I like. I think it would be fun to sit down with him and his family. I also want to ask him what’s up with the hair?”
