There’s nothing like a nice glass of sangria to sweeten your meal, especially when it’s still warm outside. The combo of crisp wine and sweet fruit never disappoints when it’s done well, and Aviary Creperie and Patisserie has often had a great sangria or two on the cocktail menu. Recently, we couldn’t get enough of the strawberry-basil sangria at Aviary Creperie and Patisserie (2144 E. Republic Rd., Suite E120, Springfield, 417-881-9736.). It’s a tasty blend of white wine, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, white grape juice, strawberries and fresh basil. The perfectly chilled concoction toed the line between refreshing and sweet, and the addition of a fresh and savory herb along with the ever-so-slightly floral flavor of St-Germain liqueur added an intriguing botanical kick to the mix. This sangria is easy drinking with a punch when you least expect it, and you’ll want to order more than one during your meal—then come back for more on your next dinner out.
