Arts In Action: The 10 Weeks Festival—Week 6
If you love the arts, this week is like an artistic hug after you’ve been dumped by non-cultural events. Yes, it is that satisfying
For the international offerings this weekend there is Violin superstar, Augustin Hadelich, who is performing with the greatest orchestras all over the world, including your Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and who made his Carnegie Hall debut last season to overwhelming critical acclaim. He will be in town this weekend performing the monumental Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Springfield Symphony.
Also, there is the 23 year-old Russian cellist Alexandre Bouzlov, whom since winning the 2001 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, has performed in concert around the world, and has won many major international cello competitions. He will be delighting audiences in Springfield this week at Juanita K. Hammons Hall.
And on the national scene, Juanita K. Hammons Hall welcomes Bebe Neuwirth, that’s right, Dr. Lilith Sternin- Dr. Frasier Crane's ex-wife both on the popular TV sitcom Cheers, and later Frasier. What many don’t know is that Bebe Neuwirth is an acclaimed Broadway performer and will bring her one woman cabaret show to Springfield this Sunday.
Also, the professional local talent in Springfield will be on display this week at The Skinny Improv Theatre featuring Swan Repertory Theatre Company’s The Trip to Bountiful and The Skinny Improv’s Mainstage Show.
And then there are the local budding stars of tomorrow featured in Springfield Ballet’s The Princess and the Pea and Ballet Through the Eras, which features four ballets from three different eras in history at the Landers Theatre and the Children’s Choirs of Southwest Missouri showcasing their Voices of Spring at The Gillioz Theatre.
You’ll have to pick and choose this weekend because there is so much to offer! Don’t forget to enjoy all of these wonderful opportunities this week and put a $1 in the Arts in Action donation box to support arts in education and basic needs for our area public school children. We now have raised $4,375.35 for the Arts in Education Fund and the Care to Learn Fund.
