As you gear up for warmer weather and getaway urges, 417 Magazine’s May issue has you covered. We found five Dining Day Trips that are destinations in and of themselves, from “the best dang fried chicken in the state” to a sweet historic house where lunch-typical meets gourmet. The feature tells you where to go, what to eat when you get there and how to have fun around town while you let your feast digest. The best part: Each one is affordable, so you can use a vacation day to explore your state on a culinary road trip instead of breaking the bank on big travel.

How’d we find the tasty treats at each of these restaurants? Well, we hit the road of course. In two days, 417 Magazine writers Melody Adams and Savannah Waszczuk, designers Cassie Darst and Bethany Lohmeyer and photographer Kevin O’Riley took to the open road to, quite literally, gorge themselves in the name of journalism. And they did it all for you. They came back stuffed, and ready to put this issue together.

So which southwest Missouri eateries made the list? You’ll have to wait until the May issue hits newsstands to find out. Until then, just gaze at this perfectly seasoned cover, and drool.
