If today's trial lunch time was any indication, the new Houlihan's in the refurbished DoubleTree Hotel at Kearney and Glenstone could become another northside destination eatery like Fire & Ice. A project of the O'Reilly Auto Parts family, the new Houlihan's has a sleek, urban feel and a menu similar to J-Bucks or Ruby Tuesday's.
This weekend the restaurant is putting kitchen and wait staff through the paces by letting guests sample items off the appetizer, entrée and dessert menues in exchange for donations to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. Our sample lunch included rosemary chicken, fish tacos and a "dome" of Snickers ice cream, served over a brownie. The coolest idea I saw (but didn't sample, yet): a three mini-martini sampler, brought to your table in a metal sling, for only $8.
