Meet the Groom-to-Be
Ask any bride-to-be about her wedding plans and she could probably tell you every detail. But what’s it like to be the day’s other shining star? 26-year-old Roger Kure is marrying the love of his life in August 2010. He agreed to share his experiences of wedding planning from a guy’s perspective, sharing every big decision from now until his says “I do.”
About four years ago, I hooked into a “keeper” while fishing in Toronto, Canada. She fought a good fight, but she ultimately ended up tiring after she nearly stripped my reel of all its line. As a figure of speech, she now sits on my fireplace mantle.
Let me back up and translate… My fiancée, Jenna Wixson, was a fellow Drury student and member of the Drury Students In Free Enterprise team (DU SIFE). In 2005, we were in Toronto, Canada competing in the SIFE World Cup Championship, and sparks began to ignite. After a disappointing 2nd place finish, our team went out to explore the night life at a local club. A few drinks later, I was gleefully tricked and hauled onto the dance floor. I haven’t looked back.
But try not to delude yourself into thinking that I was the one who was caught, which is what Jenna seems to think. I let it slide though, because I am already trained in the philosophy of “happy wife, happy life,” therefore I let her think what makes her happy.
I’ll briefly tell you our backgrounds. Jenna is currently a third and final year candidate for a doctorate in physical therapy at Southwest Baptist University. She’s got an awesome family that lives a few miles north of Springfield, and they are Hillcrest enthusiasts. My name is Roger Kure, and I’m a sole practitioning CPA in Springfield. I’m originally from Camdenton, Missouri, the home of Lakers football.
At the request of a friend from 417 Magazine, I’ll be writing and sharing brief thoughts from a guy’s perspective about various wedding-planning experiences leading up to my wedding in August 2010.
Roger Kure
