Restaurant Week Testimonial: Gilardi's

Now through Thursday, August 20, 16 local restaurants are offering a 417 Restaurant Week menu, from which you and a partner can enjoy a three-course meal for just $41.70 (or $20.85 for one person). Our staff and our readers have been trying the menus (click here to browse them all) since last Wednesday, and are excited to talk about their experiences. This is one of those testimonials.

(Editor's note: Sorry we've gotten a little behind on these... we'll try to get them all up by early Thursday so you can still hit the ones that sound best to you. M.L.)

On Night Three of Restaurant Week, and Joan and I joined entertainment impresario Mark Whitmore and his wife Robin for dinner at Gilardi's. Joan and I shared the ceasar salad featured in the 417 Restaurant Week menu, while Mark and Robin opted for the Gilardi salad (tomato, sweet red onion, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and cucumber served on a nest of organic salad greens, tossed with champagne vinaigrette.) The $41.70 dinner for two  includes the ravioli of the day, and luckily for us it was our favorite; veal ravioli with portabella mushrooms. All four of us signed on. Joan and I split the tiramisu for dessert while Mark and Robin finished with sorbet, with Mark (who's eaten on at least six of the seven continents) declaring it the best he's ever had. The action was all around us; a 50th birthday in one corner, a 5th anniversary in another and a wedding proposal (she said yes) made for a memorable meal. Can't guarantee you'll be part of so many milestones, but the Gilardi Restaurant Week menu is a winner at any price.
