Those of us who really dig the Queen City of the West, and want to get there in the shortest amount of time possible, are a little sadder than usual this morning, as Delta announced yesterday that it was cutting its single daily flight between Springtown and Cincy (read the News-Leader's account). At least we've still got Vegas (for now).
Are you affected by the Cincinnati cut? Are you afraid another regular flight might be axed as fuel costs rise and discretionary spending plummets? Tell us about it in the comments.
And while we're on the subject of airports, if you haven't read our July magazine cover story about the under-construction Branson airport, we highly suggest you do so now.

Not only have we lost the Cincy connection, if you check the Allegiant schedule, the airline has no service from 417-land to the St. Petersburg Florida airport from mid-August to mid-November. It's not for lack of business. The flights are nearly always full. The word is lots of 417-landers with family or second homes in the St. Pete Sarasota area will have to make other travel plans while shuffles Allegiant shuffles its fleet and takes some of its heavy fuel-guzzling equipment offline in favor of more fuel efficient (and less roomy) jets.

After retiring in the late 80's, my husband and I moved to
Springfield from Florissant, St.Louis county, with plans for
traveling by air to cities in the U.S. where our four grown
children live with our grandchildren. Though we were only minutes away from the St.Louis airport, we believed the air
distance was nearly as close from Springfield and we moved only 15 minutes from the Springfield airport, with nominal
fare difference at that time. My mother was elderly, living
in St.Louis, but again the air time was shorter than driving
if there was an emnergency. After the first year, when the
added cost was reasonable from Springfield through St.Louis on
flights to the east coast, the jump to $200 more added to a
flight from Springfield to anywhere in the country has been
increasing. Why, we ask, can't SOUTHWEST AIRLINES become
a regular connecting city to Springfield when they fly over
us from Texas, Tulsa, etc.? We live in
the 3rd largest city in Missouri where growth is even greater.
Now, driving has become too expensive for traveling long
distances across the country for retirees on fixed income,
with high prescription and food costs. So much for visiting
grandchildren! Hopefully, AmTrac will decide to expend their
services through Springfield soon.
