In a world without Brad Pitt, this would be the hottest Hollywood-to-Springfield connection in some time. As it is, world-famous actor-director Kevin Costner's Sunday, July 6 visit to Springfield is still one of the biggest 417-land happenings of 2008.
The star of Dances With Wolves, Bull Durham, JFK and other blockbusters will be in 417-land Monday Sunday, July 6, to promote Swing Vote, a precient dramady where one regular guy (played by Costner) winds up being the single vote that will decide a presidential election. Costner will attend a VIP meet-and-greet reception at Bass Pro Shops White River Room from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a private screening of Swing Vote at Campbell 16 Cine at 7 p.m. Swing Vote opens nationwide on August 1.
So, why Springfield? Costner (who was spied dining at Hemingway's Blue Water Café several weeks ago; now we know why) has some connections to Bass Pro—promo photos show him wearing the store's apparel in Swing Vote; he will also serve as honorary crew chief for the Bass Pro-sponsored NASCAR of Martin Truex Jr. at an upcoming race at Daytona. But it's not all capitalism in Gore-Tex: Charity is playing a part, too. The $250 price tag to attend both events will benefit the White River Basin Foundation and the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. Those are two great causes by themselves, and with a chance to chat with perhaps the most famous Hollywood figure of the '80s and '90s? Sign us up.
Space is limited to the first 250 people, so call 1-800-646-3474 if you want to attend.
NOTE: This post has been changed to reflect the fact that Costner will be here in SUNDAY July 6. We originally posted the wrong day. All apologies.
