Extreme Makeover: Thoughts From the Volunteer Rally
417 Magazine has been asked to host the wrap party for Extreme Makeover Home Edition here in 417-land. We were so honored when Sam and Michelle Clifton of Millstone Homes, the builder of the Extreme Makeover home, asked us. Since then it’s been a whirlwind of meetings, planning and meeting the location crew for the show. Yesterday, marketing coordinator Gina DeGenova and I attended the Extreme Makeover Home Edition Volunteer Rally at Remington’s. We have both signed up to volunteer during the home build and are planning the wrap party. Needless to say we are pretty excited about being a part of this experience!
The volunteer rally was really inspiring. Conrad, an executive producer for the show is a great motivational speaker. He’s been with the show since the very first build and has a huge passion for what he does. They showed videos of past builds and talked about how it really brings a whole community together to build this house. Anyone can come out and watch the house being built. And they are asking all spectators to bring one canned food item for a food drive to help our local food pantries. In upstate New York they had 30,000 people come to watch the house being built. Imagine if 30,000 417-landers each brought a canned food item? That would more than stock food pantries in our area. They will also be hosting a blood drive on the site for spectators who want to give. The big message is, even if you can’t volunteer with the build for this one family, the spirit of giving that the show inspires can make a huge difference for our entire community.
