Tennis, Everyone?
The United States Tennis Association has announced that Springfield is one of ten finalists for its Best Tennis Town competition. The top city will be decided by an online vote of fans (that would mean you), now through July 26.
Towns are picked based on committement to the sport of tennis (we assume that means facilities and programs... yay Cooper Tennis Stadium and Lasers!). The winning city will be announced at the 2009 U.S. Open; the winner recieves a trophy and $100,000 for community-wide tennis programming.
Springfield's competition includes: Grand Junction, Colorado; Tempe, Arizona; Cary, North Carolina; Las Vegas, Nevada; Midland, Michigan; Baton Rough, Louisiana; Ojai, California; Independence, Kansas; and Hickory, North Carolina.
