Arts in Action: The 10 Weeks Festival—Week 2
Arts in Action: The 10 Weeks Festival kicked off this past weekend with, well—hating to sound cliché but going to anyway—a BANG! Within a mere two days of asking event attendees for just $1 at Springfield Symphony, Little Theatre, Swan Repertory Theatre and Skinny Improv performances, The 10 Weeks Festival raised $1,384.46.
To break it down, that means over the weekend the arts community helped raise $692.23 for the new Arts in Education Fund to help area arts organizations take their programs into area schools and $2,768.92 for the Care to Learn Fund, thanks to a generous 3-to-1 match set up by local business leader Doug Pitt with help from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation (yes, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation), Jim D. Morris, Wal-Mart and St. John's.
And there are still nine more weeks to go. Yep—nine whole weeks of the best cultural events Springfield has to offer to raise money for artistic and basic needs for our area school children. All you have to do is attend an event and place $1 is the Arts in Action donation box at the participating venue.
