Let's Get Physical!

Groom Roger Kure knows he wants to look his best at the altar, but he hasn’t started his wedding prep workouts yet. The wedding isn’t until next summer, and he has plenty of time… right?

Ask any bride-to-be about her wedding plans and she could probably tell you every detail. But what’s it like to be the day’s other shining star? 26-year-old Roger Kure is marrying the love of his life in August 2010. He agreed to share his experiences of wedding planning from a guy’s perspective, sharing every big decision from now until his says “I do.”

There are two perceptions of time when a man and a woman are engaged for more than a year. To grooms, the wedding isn’t even close, but brides think it’s just around the corner. Now take this fact and relate it to physical fitness. I know that I’d like to stand at the altar in my physical prime, and I know that Jenna would like to be the picture-perfect bride. But our day of marriage is way out there on my calendar, so I haven’t even began to consider what I’m going to look like in my tuxedo.

But Jenna has recently started plugging subtle lines in regards to “what I used to look like.” And there it is. Of course these comments are light-hearted. And even if they weren’t, they'd end up being deflected by my (or any man’s) innate ability to ignore things I don’t want to hear. Yet still, she’ll get one past my guards every now and then.

For example, any time your other half says, “Your arms are smaller than they used to be,” you can expect a reaction. No man wants to hear that his arms are smaller, which is why she is clever beyond her understanding. I don’t think she intentionally targeted my arms, but she did “guess and check” correctly. Strangely enough, my perception of when we’re getting married has sped up in terms of how many sets of curls I need to do in the weight room.
