Details are murky, but Missouri State University President Michael Nietzel, citing personal and professional reasons, announced today that he will step down by the end of 2010, according to a story at the News-Leader's website.

417 interviewed Nietzel in 2008 as part our Favorite Things series.

Surely a lot will be said and written about Nietzel's replacement--and his ground-breaking, yet relatively short tenure--between now and the time he leaves.
