Ask any bride-to-be about her wedding plans and she could probably tell you every detail. But what’s it like to be the day’s other shining star? 26-year-old Roger Kure is marrying the love of his life in August 2010. He agreed to share his experiences of wedding planning from a guy’s perspective, sharing every big decision from now until his says “I do.”

Marriage… Don’t tell my wife-to-be, but my initial reaction to the unity of two people is related to what I do as a CPA. In the world of individual tax returns, my filing status can now be “married filing jointly.” I see this as a good thing–in the long haul, this should prove to be financially beneficial for us both.

My next reaction to the idea of being married involves the homestead. Anyone who has been to my house immediately recognizes that someone loves to decorate. It isn’t me, although they probably question that (technically I’m the only one who owns the house and lives there full-time). The house furnishes paintings, candle sconces, mirrors, greenery and flowers. When a guy friend comes to my house for the first time, he usually gets a smug look on his face as he walks around. I just know he is thinking the decorations have a particular feminine flare. And then I have to give this explanation. As a married man, I will no longer have to defend my house decorations to visitors, as they will be the implicit property of the other half.
