About This Event

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – National Foster Care Day is Tuesday, May 2, 2023, and I Pour Life will host Nurture. Thrive. Repeat., an appreciation event, featuring nationally recognized speaker, Josh Shipp, as the keynote. Shipp, a former at-risk youth in foster care and now postgraduate of Harvard, has been featured by Oprah, The New York Times, and Good Morning America, and is the bestselling author of several books.

Nurture. Thrive. Repeat. is a half-day event tailored to serve foster and adoptive parents, caseworkers, and affiliated agency staff at 425 Downtown in Springfield. There will be two sessions — a breakfast session beginning at 7:30 a.m. and a luncheon session beginning at 11:30 a.m. The presentations will mirror one another, and we encourage guests to sign up for one of the sessions.

“We couldn't be more thrilled to host our foster and adoptive parents and area service providers at our first-ever ‘Nurture. Thrive. Repeat.’ appreciation event on National Foster Care Day,” Ben McBride, I Pour Life’s Executive Director, says. “As a nationally recognized leader in serving older at-risk youth, it is critical that I Pour Life helps support the entire community involved in this cause. We're excited to host Josh Shipp, a talented speaker whose main message is, ‘Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story.’ I Pour Life couldn't agree more, and we're honored to host our community's caring adults at ‘Nurture. Thrive. Repeat.’”

Statistically, Josh Shipp should be dead, in jail, or homeless. But his success as a preeminent author, speaker, and global youth empowerment expert is living proof of the power of one caring adult. A former at-risk foster kid turned youth advocate, Josh is renowned for the documentary TV series on A&E that followed his groundbreaking work with youth and families. He has written two national bestsellers, “The Grown-Up’s Guide to Teenage Humans” — winner of the Nautilus Gold Award for Parenting and Family — and “The Teen’s Guide to World Domination.”

Thanks to the support of teachers, counselors, and a fantastic set of foster parents, Josh went on to be named to Inc. Magazine’s 30 under 30 list and completed his postgraduate studies at Harvard.

Josh is regularly called on by OPRAH, CNN, FOX, The New York Times, 20/20, and Good Morning America to comment on the next generation's challenges. Over the years, Josh has keynoted events for countless groups of parents, educators, and social workers — with audiences as large as 55,000 — and, to date, has spoken live in front of more than two million people. Viral clips of his acclaimed presentations have been viewed an estimated 50 million times online through platforms such as UpWorthy, Goalcast, and BuzzFeed.
