Now in its eighth year, the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival returns to celebrate Springfield as the city where the nation’s first cross-country highway originated. In the spirit of tradition, this year’s events include a two-day car and motorcycle show, an appropriately themed 6.6K run, Route 66–related exhibits, a parade and more. Several local, regional and national musicians are also scheduled to perform. Don’t forget to check out historic points of interest along the Mother Road located throughout the Queen City.
Free; Friday noon–11 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.–11 p.m.; Downtown Springfield. For a schedule of events and to register for the car and motorcycle show or the 6.6K run, visit route66festivalsgf.com.
