About This Event

Let’s Have a Garden Party! The Springfield Council of Federated Garden Clubs invites all to its 65th Standard Flower Show scheduled Saturday, May 18, 2019, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Library Center Auditorium, 4653 S Campbell, Springfield. Accessible to persons of all abilities, the show is free and open to the public. The Council is comprised of Hillbilly Gardeners, Brentwood Garden Club and Ever Green Garden Club. The show complies to National Garden Club, Inc.(NGC,Inc.) rules for this judged event.

“Sharing what grows right here in our beautiful Ozarks is the pure joy of the flower show for our members,” said general show chairman Cheryl Vowels, Hillbilly Gardeners. “We expect around 300 pieces of horticultural to be entered and displayed. In addition to the cut flowers, decorative foliage and arboreal entries, three Botanical Arts categories, three Photography categories and five categories of Floral Design along with three Educational Exhibits are featured. The categories are themed to add creative interests for participants and engage the public. The show is judged to promote horticultural and design excellence.”

New this year to the show is a larger opportunity to share Botanical Arts. Fairy Gardens and Terrariums, and Kokedama, are part of the category. The other is Photography, focusing on gardening, nature and creatures visiting gardens, judged by local photography experts, using NGC, Inc. Photography scale of points. Themed Floral Design categories include You are My Sunshine, Fun in the Sun, Spring Fling, Tea for Two and Let’s Have a Tea Party. Education Exhibits are a take on a NGC, Inc. theme, Plant America For Future Generations. The three clubs will focus on education of conservation efforts: trees, bees and water. NGC, Inc. judges will judge designs, horticulture and education exhibits.

Member clubs of the Springfield Council of the Federated Garden Clubs are Park Partners of the Springfield Botanical Gardens, members of: the Southwest District of Federated Garden Clubs, Inc., the Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri, Inc., the Central Region of National Garden Clubs, Inc. and NGC, Inc.

The three garden clubs include around 100 members.
Years past saw over 500 visitors to our flower shows. This year it is only one day not two and a half. We are excited to invite the community to attend and see how real gardeners celebrate their gardens.

National Garden Clubs, Inc, parent organization of our clubs, is the largest group of volunteer gardeners in America.

All three garden clubs maintain community flower gardens, worked together to install local Blue Star Memorials, share gardening with local youth and / or elderly, support the efforts of conservation and preservation in a variety of ways. Members volunteer across the community as individuals and as clubs to realize success in gardening efforts. Finally, we financially support scholarships for horticulture locally and or through state / national organizations along with a long list of conservation / gardening excellence focused activities.
